Cognitive Skills and Literacy (6-19)

Research looking at neuroscience and education emphasise the importance of building robust cognitive skills in order to prime the brain for learning. Our multi-tiered approach to language and literacy development focusses on laying the cognitive foundation first, then building on language and literacy skills. These cognitive foundations are required for effective learning, reading and comprehension.

1. Primary School

Primary School students are assigned to appropriate programs based on their grade reading level.

Wiring the Brain for Academic Gain

Our Fast ForWord Language program applies discoveries of neuroscience to build critical cognitive skills that prime the brain for effective learning to take place. It develops the fundamental language skills that are building blocks for listening, speaking and reading success. For struggling learners, these modules also address the auditory processing skills required to discern language and for effective learning to take place.

Integral to these programs is our patented technology which uses acoustically modified speech and sophisticated adaption techniques. These allow for rapid development of a student?s ability to distinguish sound quickly enough to discriminate their difference.

Which skills are being trained??

How does it work?

The exercises are disguised in the form of computer games with reward systems, top scores and great animation. Students can train in the comfort of their homes on an i-pad, laptop or computer. The real-time feedback system allows our team of health and educational professionals to monitor as and when students work. The system adapts to each students unique profile of strengths and difficulties, targeting their weaker areas through a personalised approach.

How do we track performance?

Our online data analysis and reporting tools enable us to monitor individual performance; customise instruction; and motivate students. Graphical depictions show usage, performance, reading level trends, and student proficiency levels.

It’s one of the reasons why our learning acceleration programs have been so successful in helping students and schools succeed.

Reading is a demanding activity calling for many specific events to take place simultaneously in the brain. Our Fast ForWord reading series is an intervention solution that increases processing efficiency and builds critical reading skills.

Online, real-time feedback allows us to monitor student progress, provide intervention, adapt skills levels and generate reports.

Our Reading Assistant program acts as a patient, non-judgmental listener that provides support to all students as they improve their English oral reading skills, essential for English language proficiency. Advanced speech verification technology with scientifically-based interventions help students strengthen their reading fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.

Reading Assistant is the only academic software program that listens to students as they read out loud, intervenes when students falter, and automatically scores students oral reading. No other program provides comparable?real-time guidance and feedback.

Reading Content

Each collection contains highly-illustrated selections grouped in topical clusters, many with a science or social studies theme. This organisation helps students build a body of knowledge and also read common vocabulary in different contexts.

The software maintains
careful performance records and the corresponding audio of each reading session for review by student and teacher. The program computes the students Words Correct Per Minute automatically.

2. High School

High School students are assessed to ensure the appropriate programmes are assigned in terms of their profile of strengths and weaknesses.

“There have been great strides in the field of neuroscience and education in the past few decades. I am very blessed to be involved in this field and cherish the opportunity to be able to work with students of all ages, ranging in abilities. I wholeheartedly believe that this is the future of learning and education. To date I have not come across any neuroscientific programme that offers the range of cognitive intervention that Fast ForWord does and has the scientific evidence to support the efficacy of the programmes. “
